Sicily is one of the most diverse islands of the Mediterranean in terms of geography, flora and fauna. Different types of stone, clay and all kinds of plants and fruits are plentiful, not to mention the Etna volcano as the beating heart of the island. Remembering the great amount of time spent in my grandfather’s garden full of such natural sources, I decided to have a closer look at what Sicily is made of – literally.
This research offers insight into which natural materials the island has to offer, what they mean for the people of Sicily and what has been and can be created using them.
